Developing E-courses for Swachh Bharat Mission (U)

The “Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban” (SBM-U) is a major initiative of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA), Government of India. With an objective of building capacity of municipal functionaries of all 4041 statutory towns as well as sharing of “what works” and leading practices in the urban sanitation sector, the Ministry launched an e-learning platform. The portal was launched by the then Hon. Union Minister, Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu on August 1, 2015. Such an online learning portal provides flexibility to busy city managers and provides them options of choosing their own pace of learning. This platform serves as a one-stop hub with videos showcasing leading practices, technology options and offer peer to peer learning. UMC has helped the SBM-U in designing the portal architecture, design course framework, pedagogy, create content for the portal, design the certification process and help monitor and moderate usage of the portal.

UMC acts as the secretariat for the e-learning portal. The e-learning platform is hosted on the Massively Empowered Classroom platform of Microsoft India. The e-course is divided into seven components in accordance with the Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban) Guidelines. Each film is accompanied by a quiz which further strengthens the learning from the film. The participants are issued certificates at the end of successful completion of the quiz. A ready reckoner of the e-learning modules has been developed and put up on the portal for users to easily navigate through the courses. Access the e-learning portal here:
