UMC provides technical assistance to the Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban). one of the recent support has been to prepare a guidebook on their Swachh Survekshan Survey 2017. Download the annexure to the guidebook here.

The Ministry of Urban Development, Government of India formulated the National Urban Sanitation Policy (2009) that envisions community-driven, total sanitized, healthy and livable cities and towns. The NUSP states that cities should become open defecation free, all human and liquid wastes should be collected and safely treated and adequate resources should be available for the operation and maintenance of the sanitation facilities.

The Government of Gujarat launched the state mission titled “Mahatma Gandhi Swachhata Mission (MGSM)” with a vision to make Gujarat open defecation free, zero waste, dust free and green. UMC is currently the technical support unit to the MGSM for implementation of SBM and MGSM objectives in the state. UMC is part of the Sanitation Capacity Building Platform of the NIUA and is designing training modules on faecal sludge and septage management (FSSM) for different stakeholders.
